A rare and impressive set comprising a pendulum clock and two matching cassolettes (cups). A masterpiece of fine French cabinetmaking and mechanics that perfectly embodies the elegance of the Second Empire.
Composition and Materials
The body of all three elements is crafted from fine Belgian Black Marble with refined veined Red Marble inlays. The clock is embellished with two majestic fluted columns and bronze friezes depicting classical scenes with cherubs, also repeated on the bases of the two lateral elements.
Technical Features of the Clock
Prestigious Movement: Enameled dial with Arabic numerals and rare visible escapement, a highly sought-after detail that allows the jewels to be observed in action.
Architectural Design: Solid "temple" structure, typical of 19th-century eclecticism.
Glasses: Original and intact.
Condition and Notes (Please read carefully)
The item is an authentic period piece and, while in excellent overall condition with lustrous bronzes, it shows the normal signs of aging typical of antique marble. In particular, the following are notable:
A chip on the upper edge of one of the two side cups (as shown in the detailed photo).
A small chip/defect on the black marble collar of one of the columns (as shown in the detailed photo). These details do not compromise the stability or monumental beauty of the piece, but rather testify to its authenticity.
