Product description
This large oil painting from the 1970s conveys a strong socio-critical or moralistic message, in the style of magical realism or satirical art. The depiction shows an elderly couple, possibly the rich elite, literally sitting in a tree where Dutch guilder banknotes are raining down. They are physically held up by the working class, symbolized by stacked figures, including a clerk and a gas station attendant with an apron and an oil can on the lawn. This work strikingly symbolizes the social hierarchy, where the ordinary working person bears the burdens so that the top can live in luxury. An impressive work of art with deep meaning.
Dimensions: approximately 54 x 104 cm.
