Product description
This set of six Universale stacking chairs was designed by Joe Colombo for Kartell in 1967. The design represents a significant milestone in furniture history as one of the first chairs to be injection-moulded from a single material. This is an original, vintage set of six. A perfect amount as they are stackable by three. A similar set of three is part of the collection of the MoMa in New York. Constructed entirely from black plastic, the chairs feature a distinctive cylindrical leg design and a central cutout in the backrest, which facilitates both stacking and handling. The robust material and structural integrity reflect the innovative manufacturing techniques of the late 1960s Italian design movement. The uniform black colourway provides a strong, graphic silhouette. The chairs remain in fully functional condition, preserving their original structural form. They exhibit character consistent with their age and history of use, maintaining the authentic finish of the period.
