Beautiful antique silver-plated set comprising a covered coffee pot and a covered sugar bowl, made by the Parisian house Armand Frénais. Active in Paris from 1877, Armand Frénais belongs to that generation of silversmiths who elevated French table art to a very high level of quality at the end of the 19th century. His creations in "Métal Parisien," an alloy specially designed to receive silver plating, are distinguished by their decorative abundance, their beautiful presence, and a particularly meticulous execution of the reliefs. Both pieces feature a generously curved form resting on small claw feet. The decoration combines rocaille scrolls, flowers, foliage scrolls, and undulating cartouches, in a spirit directly inherited from the 18th century and reinterpreted in the historicist style of the Belle Époque. The flower-shaped lid finials and the sculpted handles add remarkable richness to the set. The sugar bowl still has its gilded interior, which is particularly bright, creating a beautiful contrast with the exterior patina of the silver-plated metal. Both pieces bear on the reverse the marking "Métal Parisien – Armand Frénais" as well as the house's hallmarks. The set has retained its full character despite the marks of its history. The metal shows an antique patina, scratches, and traces of use consistent with its age. The sugar bowl remains very decorative and complete. On the coffee pot, the lid is detached at its fastening point and will need to be re-soldered if one wishes to restore its original functionality. The lid is present and accompanies the piece. The photographs accurately show this condition.
