ProfessionalProduct description
A beautiful old silver-plated metal set comprising a covered coffee pot and sugar bowl, made by the Parisian house of Armand Frénais. Active in Paris from 1877, Armand Frénais belongs to that generation of silversmiths who elevated French tableware to a very high level of quality at the end of the 19th century. His creations in "Métal Parisien," an alloy specially designed to receive silver plating, are distinguished by their decorative abundance, their beautiful presence, and a particularly meticulous execution of the reliefs. Both pieces feature a generously curved form resting on small claw feet. The decoration combines rococo scrolls, flowers, foliage, and undulating cartouches, in a spirit directly inherited from the 18th century and reinterpreted in the historicist style of the Belle Époque. The flower-shaped lid finials and sculpted handles bring remarkable richness to the set. The sugar bowl still retains its particularly bright gilt interior, creating a beautiful contrast with the exterior patina of the silver-plated metal. Both pieces bear on the reverse the marking "Métal Parisien – Armand Frénais" as well as the maker's marks. The set has retained all its character despite the marks of its history. The metal shows an antique patina, scratches, and signs of use consistent with its age. The sugar bowl remains highly decorative and complete. On the coffee pot, the lid has become detached at its attachment point and would need to be re-soldered if one wishes to restore its original function. The lid is present and accompanies the piece. The photographs accurately show this condition. A particularly decorative set of French silversmith's work, to be kept with its patina or entrusted to a professional for a light restoration of the coffee pot. Armand Frénais House, Paris. Silver-plated "Métal Parisien." Circa .
