A French table piece signed by one of the great silversmithing houses. This silver-plated bottle coaster was made by the house of Christofle, whose name and hallmarks clearly appear on the reverse. Founded in Paris in the 19th century, the house profoundly marked the history of French tableware, making silver-plated metal a true domain of excellence. Its circular shape is of elegant simplicity. A wide, rounded rim frames the central basin and gives it that discreet presence characteristic of objects designed to accompany fine tables without ever overwhelming them. Intended to hold a bottle or a carafe, it protects the table while adding that little touch of silversmithing that was once an integral part of the art of entertaining. The Christofle hallmarks allow its manufacture to be dated after 1935. The absence of the quality marking in Roman numerals that appeared in 1983, combined with the piece's craftsmanship, leads to a dating around the years . The surface shows scratches, signs of use, and an old patina, with the silver plating having worn in places.
