Education:
Van Vessem was educated from 1959 to 1962 at the Academy of Visual Arts in Rotterdam.
Van Vessem lives and works in Rotterdam.
Van Vessem had his first exhibition in 1968 in De Doelen in Rotterdam. He was co-initiator of several institutions. In 1973, for example, he was co-founder of the Open Art Foundation, which aims to facilitate workshops and courses for professional artists, and in 1978 he founded Graphic Atelier Rijnmond with a number of others. During the rest of his career, Van Vessem was involved in many initiatives, such as Wendrich Art Editions, De Lijn and an Orion graphic workshop for mentally handicapped people. In 1983 Van Vessem took part in Art Basel. He has traveled to and has temporarily resided in France, New York, India and Spain, among others.
Exhibitions and prizes:
Van Vessem's work has been exhibited at home and abroad. In 1999 he had a retrospective in Museum Jan van der Togt in Amstelveen, where he received the knighthood at the opening.
