This side chair was designed by the renowned Finnish designer Tapio Wirkkala for the manufacturer Asko in the 1960s. The design features an organically shaped seat shell that reflects the characteristic design language of Scandinavian Mid-Century Modernism.
The construction consists of a continuous seat and back shell made of molded plywood with a striking wood veneer in warm brown tones. The shell is supported by a delicate, four-legged frame made of chrome-plated metal, which provides an elegant contrast to the natural material of the seat. The underside bears the original Asko manufacturer's mark, confirming the authenticity and Finnish origin of this design.
The chair is in good, functional condition and displays an authentic patina that speaks to its history. Its structural integrity is fully preserved, while the surfaces reflect the character of the past decades.
This piece of furniture integrates beautifully into modern or Scandinavian-inspired interiors. It is ideally suited as a sculptural standalone chair in the living area, at the desk or as part of an eclectic dining room ensemble.
