Product description
This ship's lantern with its 360-degree round red spherical glass is an antique and unique decorative item. The red glass indicates that this lantern was used as an N.M.V. lantern, or a "Non-Maneuverable Vessel". Also known as a hazard/signal lamp. These types of lamps with translucent colorless glass were often used for smaller ships or as anchor lighting.
As far as we can determine, the oil reservoir will no longer be functional. Whether there are still parts belonging around or in the reservoir, our knowledge does not extend that far. It is a beautiful decorative item and has historical value. These lamps were often used around 1900.
Dimensions (approx): 40 cm (55 cm including hanging bracket) Diameter 35
Diameter shade and base: 14.5 cm
Glass is still intact. The lantern itself is painted white.
