Product description
Beautiful set of four vintage dining chairs, produced by AwA in the Netherlands in the 1960s. The chairs come from the first owners of a farm in Ridderkerk and were purchased at the time together with a matching extendable dining table.
The chairs have been fully restored in a workshop. The teak wood has been thoroughly cleaned, nourished, and refinished, bringing out its warm, deep color beautifully again. The seats have new foam and have been re-upholstered in a soft beige wool fabric, which contrasts nicely with the dark wood and complements the understated look of the design. Moreover, they are very comfortable again, which is not unimportant.
At first glance, it might seem like a rather simple design, but it's when you look closer that you notice how much attention has been paid to the design. The slender legs and slightly curved rails give the frame an elegant appearance, while the back legs subtly splay outwards towards the backrest. This gives the chair an almost open, fanning-out shape from behind. The wide, curved backrest connects beautifully to this, reinforcing that flowing line.
It is often mentioned that Louis van Teeffelen also designed for AwA. A firm attribution of this model is not known, but given the organic lines, refined wood joints, and eye for detail, that thought is certainly not strange. Apart from that, it is simply a particularly beautiful example of Dutch craftsmanship from the 1960s.
