Product description
These vintage/antique characterful chairs are a variant of the 1930s/40s Tübinger Stuhl.
Dimensions (always approx):
Height: 78 cm
Width: 45 cm
Seat height: 45 cm
Seat width: 40 cm/Seat depth 39 cm.
The influence and thus the basis of the Bauhaus Philosophy is clear here. Namely: Form follows Function.
Stripped of any superfluous curly decoration.
Brackets, screws and other forms of connection were allowed to be visible during this period.
A beautiful set of extremely solid and sturdy chairs where the signs of wear and the above give the set a great story. Sitting with character ;-). You can always consider adjusting the seats in terms of color and style, we prefer to leave it as is.
The chairs are upholstered with almost certainly (faux) leather and yellowish foam rubber/foam and are not original in our opinion. Its predecessor, namely Wastuch or Rexine, is different. In the 1920s-30s, cloth coated with nitrocellulose, invented in the early 20th century, was very popular.
A special detail, and thus additional clarification of the age/period, is that the screw/plate fitting of the chairs is 'stamped' with DRGM on the underside. The plates hold the rear legs with screw bolts.
D.R.G.M or DRGM stands for Deutsches Reichs-Gebrauchs-Muster.
A patent mark that was used between approx. 1891 and 1945.
After 1945, this mark/fitting was no longer produced; after 1945-1949, the surplus was still used; after 1949, the fitting was stamped with DBP (Deutches Bundes Patent).
Vintage design chairs with a story!
