Product description
Set of two original Thonet S33 cantilever chairs; the authentic famous design by Mart Stam from 1926.
Made with a chrome-plated tubular steel frame and thick natural harness/core leather, which has developed a distinct patina through years of use.

The S33 is one of the early and most important designs in the history of the cantilever tubular chair. In the 1920s, Mart Stam experimented with a chair without traditional back legs and a construction where the tubular steel frame functions as a spring-loaded support.
THONET still produces the S33.
For these two pieces, the NATURAL LEATHER is particularly decisive for their current character. The leather has clearly darkened over time and shows an uneven shading of honey, cognac, and dark brown tones. In addition, scratches, small stains, signs of wear, and local discoloration are visible. This is therefore explicitly not a set with uniformly new leather.
The natural aging process of untreated, transparently finished full-grain leather under the influence of light, touch, skin oils, and oxidation changes the color of the material and gives it its individual, unique PATINA.
As a set, they clearly match each other, but each carries its own history of use.
The chrome-plated tubular frames are in VERY NEAT used condition and form a strong contrast with the patinated leather.
Both chairs are Thonet branded.
Condition: used, with clearly visible and, in my opinion, retainable patina. On the underside, the protective textile/fabric is heavily worn and torn in several places; this is not visible from above, but is explicitly mentioned and clearly shown in the photos. Therefore, please view all detailed photos carefully.
An interesting set for those who are specifically looking for the combination of a classic modernist design and original, visibly 'lived-in' leather, instead of a restored or re-upholstered version.
