Product description
Exceptional and very decorative pair of original vintage Brutalist table lamps by Honsel Leuchten, produced in Germany and dating from approximately the 1960s/70s.
The design immediately stands out due to the heavy, sculptural form of the bases.
From the round base, deep vertical ribs rise, making the shape reminiscent of the trunk and roots of an old tree.
The dark bronze-like patina and the strongly pronounced relief give the lamps a distinct Brutalist / Mid-Century Modern appearance.
The Brutalist influence lies mainly in the use of a powerful material aesthetic, the coarse three-dimensional relief, and the almost architectural construction of the base. At the same time, the form is organic and nature-inspired.
It is precisely this combination of Brutalism and organic modernism that makes this pair so special.

HONSEL is cast in metal on the underside of the lamp base, complete with the factory logo.
Honsel Leuchten from Neheim was an established German lighting manufacturer.
In the 1960s and 1970s, the company launched a very extensive range of modern home lighting, ranging from metal and chrome to acrylic and decorative glass.
Also special are the two matching vintage shades.
These are executed in warm rust, terracotta, orange, and dark brown tones, with a relief-like pattern reminiscent of crocodile or reptile skin. The black edges create a beautiful graphic contrast with the warm colors.
When the lamps are lit, the warm tones of the shades gain extra depth and create atmospheric, subdued light.
When switched off, they function almost as two small sculptures.
They look beautiful on either side of a sideboard, on two side tables, on a large desk, or as symmetrical lighting next to a bed or sofa.
