Product description
Beautiful set of six vintage dining chairs, model ‘SB11’, designed by Cees Braakman and produced by Pastoe in the 1950s. The chairs are part of Braakman's well-known birch series, characterized by light constructions, contrasting wood types, and a sober yet optimistic design.
The chairs come from the first owners in Soest, who purchased them at the time together with the matching dining table model ‘TT23’. The fact that the chairs and table were originally purchased as a single unit makes the provenance of this set extra special.
In our workshop, the set has been completely restored. All joints have been checked and re-glued where necessary. The solid birch wood frame and the teak-veneered seats and backrests have also been completely refinished. As a result, the wood has regained its warm color and grain and has been finished with a protective topcoat.
The combination of light birch wood and dark teak creates a beautiful contrast. The slender legs and open construction ensure that the design appears light, while the seat and back clearly detach from the frame. The contrasting cover caps in both the back and the seat form a subtle detail that makes the design a bit more playful.
The SB11 is typically Braakman: simply constructed, functional, and without superfluous details. It is precisely the proportions, the contrast between the wood types, and the light construction that give the design its character. After restoration, this set is sturdy, well-maintained, and ready for daily use again.
