Product description
A set of six Danish chairs from the 1970s, representing the mature phase of Scandinavian furniture design. The collection combines the classic dining chair form with the lightness of construction and ergonomic sensibility characteristic of the era. Solid teak frames give the ensemble a warm, distinctive presence that has become synonymous with mid-century modern style.
The construction relies on slender solid teak frames with gently splayed legs that provide stability without visual heaviness. Each backrest features three horizontal rails shaped in gentle waves — a solution that serves both aesthetic and ergonomic purposes, following the natural curve of the spine. The seats, upholstered in a warm neutral-toned woven fabric, create a pleasant contrast against the rich colour of the wood. The proportions — a narrow frame paired with a generous seat depth — allow for comfortable, unrestricted seating.
By the 1970s, Danish furniture making had reached full technical maturity. Decades of working with teak, imported in large quantities since the 1950s, had developed an expertise in using the timber both economically and expressively. Dining chairs became a testing ground for backrest innovations, as designers sought solutions combining visual lightness with genuine comfort for hours spent at the table. The undulating rails seen in this set represent one of the most successful approaches to this challenge, found across numerous Danish workshops of the period.
Six chairs provide complete seating for a medium-sized dining table. The seat depth of over forty centimetres ensures comfort for adult users, while the seat height suits standard dining tables. The neutral upholstery facilitates pairing with various interiors, whether committed to vintage aesthetics or more contemporary in character.
The chairs retain their original upholstery and show signs of use consistent with their age: minor scratches and chips on the frames, surface wear on the wood, and stains with discolouration on the fabric. The condition reflects furniture from the 1970s that has seen regular domestic use. The more noticeable traces are also documented in the photographs, so that the actual state of preservation is conveyed as faithfully as possible.
