Product description
A set of six Danish chairs from the 1960s, representing the mature phase of Scandinavian modernism. The ensemble combines the lightness of form characteristic of this period with thoughtful construction, offering a cohesive solution for dining rooms or meeting spaces.
The chairs are built on frames of plywood veneered in oak, lending them a warm, natural character while maintaining the durability typical of laminated constructions. The frame flows seamlessly from the rear legs into the backrest, creating one continuous line — a solution characteristic of Danish design from that decade. The legs, gently tapering downward, give the silhouette a sense of lightness. The seat and backrest, upholstered in woven fabric in shades of beige and brown, retain their original upholstery, testament to the quality of materials used.
The 1960s in Denmark marked a period when the design principles developed by the previous generation — ergonomics, economy of form, and respect for materials — became the standard for serial production. Danish manufacturers were then exporting furniture throughout Europe and to the United States, building the international reputation of Scandinavian design. Chairs from this period are distinguished by the considered relationship between wooden frame and upholstered elements, where the frame remains visible and serves a decorative function equally important as its structural role.
Six chairs create a set sufficient for a medium-sized dining table. The seat height of nearly forty-seven centimetres suits standard table heights, while the seat width ensures comfort during longer meals. The veneered frame surface facilitates easy maintenance.
The chairs are in good condition, bearing traces of years of use including minor scratches and chips on the frames as well as wear on the edges. The upholstery is original.
