Beautiful set of four vintage dining chairs, designed in the style of Arne Hovmand Olsen and produced in the Netherlands in the 1950s. The original labels of ‘Batjes N.V. Zwolle’ are present under the seats; at the time, this was a showroom that distributed such furniture in the Netherlands, among other places.
The chairs originate from Vlissingen and were originally part of a wedding trousseau that, judging by the marking on the underside, was partly purchased in 1959. Due to a new interior, they subsequently remained unused in storage for years.
Upon arrival at our workshop, the chairs were in a rather neglected state. Therefore, they have been restored with great care and an eye for detail. The oak frames and the teak-veneered seats have been thoroughly cleaned, lightly sanded, and refinished. The characteristic patina has been deliberately preserved; it is precisely these traces of time that emphasize the authenticity and give the set extra charm.
The frames now have a deep, warm appearance again and a beautiful wood grain that immediately catches the eye. Moreover, this model, featuring an oak frame and teak seat, is seen less frequently than the fully teak variants and is therefore quite rare. Furthermore, the interplay of both wood types creates a particularly beautiful contrast.
Although the oak gives the chairs a rustic character, the overall look is elegant and refined, typical of Danish design. The craftsmanship of these chairs is evident in the details, such as the contrasting joint in the backrest and the smoothly rounded lines of the integrated ‘handles’ in the frame. An amazing mid-century set that not only makes a visual impression but is also exceptionally comfortable to sit in.
