Set of six CAB 413 dining chairs in patinated natural leather with armrests, designed by Mario Bellini for Cassina and produced in Italy in the 1970s.
CAB was the first chair to feature a freestanding leather structure, inspired by how our skin fits over our skeleton. The upholstery consists of sixteen pieces of saddle leather, individually cut by hand. The leather pieces are then sewn together only when their outer edges have been trimmed to ensure a perfect fit. Once assembled, the cover is attached to the chair’s steel ‘skeleton’ and held in place by means of a zipper fastening, as in a bespoke tailored garment.
These chairs come in their original natural leather upholstery, which has obtained a beautiful deep patina that enhances the character of each piece. The natural/cognac color is rare to find in original condition for older models, which makes this an incredible find! One of the chairs has a small repair which can be seen in the last picture. The integrated armrests provide generous comfort while maintaining a sleek silhouette.
A benchmark of Italian modern design, the CAB chair remains highly relevant today. This iconic design which will add a beautiful and comfortable touch to any dining or meeting space.
