This is a set of two vintage Barstools, designed by the Belgian duo Luc Meerschaert and Ivan De Cock in 1971 for Sigma Furniture. The stools are a characteristic example of Belgian design from the 1970s, combining a sculptural tubular frame with a comfortable seat. The design consists of a continuous frame of chromed steel tube, which gracefully bends to form both the footrest and the stable round base. The round seats are upholstered with the original brown velvet fabric, which forms a warm contrast with the shiny chrome. These materials and the flowing lines are typical of the Space Age aesthetic popular during that period. The overall condition of the set is in accordance with its age and use, with the chrome retaining its shine.
