Product description
Beautiful set of two vintage armchairs model 'FM60', also known as the 'Cube Chair'. Designed by Radboud van Beekum in 1980 and produced by Pastoe in the early 1980s. A special design that has since grown into a true classic within Dutch design.
The FM60 is made of canvas, unlike the FM62 which was made of saddle leather. For these two pieces, the seat and back have been re-upholstered in sturdy ocher yellow canvas. The ocher yellow creates a beautiful contrast with the black frame and gives the sleek design some extra playfulness, without losing its sober appearance.
The black lacquered metal frames are in neat vintage condition and are sturdy and stable. The open construction gives the armchairs an airy appearance and beautifully highlights the sleek lines of the frame. The canvas hangs loosely between the frame and naturally follows the shape of the body, which not only looks good but also ensures a comfortable, relaxed sitting experience.
What makes the FM60 particularly strong is the simplicity of its construction. The entire design is built from a sleek grid of flat and round metal tubes, which together create the recognizable cubist form. From every angle, the armchair looks slightly different; simple in design, but secretly very well thought out.
What is particularly special is that Pastoe took Van Beekum's design into production while he was not yet an established name. For a manufacturer of that size, this was far from obvious and says a lot about how convincing the design already was at the time. In summary: a cool piece of Dutch design that rightly deserves a place among the icons.
Two pieces available, price per piece.
