Product description
A “Servomanto” coat stand designed by Achille Castiglioni for Zanotta in the 1980s, characterised by a vertical black-painted metal structure and a series of shaped arms arranged at different levels. The design reduces the coat stand to a few essential elements, transforming an everyday function into an immediately recognisable graphic presence.
A long cylindrical central stem rises from a flared base and supports the various coat hooks. These extend radially around the stem and terminate in broad open curves, formed by bending the metal tubing into soft, continuous shapes. Their staggered arrangement allows garments to be hung at different heights while creating a dynamic composition around the central axis.
The contrast between the rigidity of the vertical stem and the sinuous profile of the upper elements is the defining feature of the Servomanto. The uniform black finish emphasises the continuity of the structure and highlights the outline of the hooks, giving the object the essential and subtly playful character typical of many of Castiglioni’s designs.
Condition: Good overall condition, some signs of use and small areas of paint loss.
