French work, c.1970. Bowl D 25 x H 24 cm; Tumblers D 9.5 x H 12 cm. Bubble Glass. Good condition, one chip on the ladle. A cylindrical bowl with a flared rim, eight tumblers on short stems and a matching ladle, all in the same smoked glass where bubbles are regularly suspended. Verrerie de Biot was founded in 1956 by Éloï Monod, a ceramic engineer. The bubble trapped in the mass first appeared as a manufacturing defect: Monod chose to keep it, then to make it the workshop's signature. Bubble glass has since been among the rare post-war French productions identifiable by their material alone. Complete and homogeneous set — bowl, ladle and eight tumblers come from the same production.
