This is the Earth basket with lid, designed by Marie Michielssen for the Belgian design house Serax. The object combines a robust, sculptural design with unexpected material use, resulting in a striking and functional interior piece. The basket is entirely made of papier-mâché, a material that provides a unique, irregular texture and a surprisingly light weight. The design is executed in a deep black color, which emphasizes the organic and tactile qualities of the surface.
