Exceptional and rarely offered „Dumbo“ Armchair by Finnish designer Ilmari Tapiovaara, designed 1956/1957. The sculptural Lounge Chair is characterized by its organically shaped, generously padded fiberglass seat shell, the distinctive separate back/headrest, and the delicate black metal frame. The far forward-drawn shape of the armrests gives the Armchair its characteristic, almost sculptural silhouette. The „Dumbo“ model is one of Tapiovaara's significantly rarer designs and is associated with the seating furniture he designed for the Marski Hotel in Helsinki. Unlike his well-known wooden chairs, the Dumbo appears only extremely rarely on the vintage design market. An exceptional collector's item of Finnish Modern / Scandinavian Modern Design from the 1950s. The Armchair is in need of restoration, vintage condition. The original upholstery of the seat shell and backrest shows age-related signs of wear, stains, and individual damages. The seat cushion has already been professionally re-upholstered; its cover is therefore no longer original. The Armchair is deliberately offered in its current condition so that a new owner can decide whether to preserve the existing original substance or to undertake a complete professional restoration. The dimensions are unfortunately only estimated, as the Armchair is currently in storage.
