Putti means little one in Italian and is one of the most common depictions in Renaissance, Baroque, and Rococo styles.
Their prototypes are cupids with wings and Eros. Cupid was usually the personification of the male soul.
With the spread of Christianity, putti became associated with angels beginning in the 18th century.
