Like so many other artists, the work of Rijkel Dijkstra, who first took lessons with the Bergen sculptor G. van der Leeden, is grounded in one of the roots of creativity. Her sculptures seemingly emerge spontaneously from her hands as she sculpts the wax from which the bronze forms are later cast. It is her signature style that defines her: various depictions of the human and animal world are rendered recognizable in original ways, often with curved lines that are moving, radiate warmth, and have a timeless quality.
