Terra Rosea – The Legacy of Silhouettes
On a distant continent, whose earth shimmered a delicate pink, once lived the people of the Silhouettes – beings of light and shadow who believed that every form was merely the imprint of a soul.
They left behind no writings, no weapons, no temples – only this one sculpture, fashioned from the pink earth of their world: Terra Rosea.
At its center opens the circle of origin, symbolizing the breath between the worlds. The two soaring wings represent the twin forces from which everything arises: light and darkness, sound and silence, becoming and passing away.
The delicate reliefs that dance across the surface are the echoes of their figures – silhouettes that have immortalized themselves in stone so that the balance of their world is not lost.
It is said that if you stand in front of Terra Rosea and remain silent, you can feel the breath of the silhouettes for a moment – a faint shimmer in the air, as if the stone itself were breathing.
Rotan Hunt – a self-taught artist from the picturesque Taunus region in Hesse – has dedicated himself to a mission: to breathe new life into wood and other materials. His passion began early, deepened in a renowned carpentry workshop in Austria, and developed into true craftsmanship.
But Hunt never settled on the traditional. He combines wood with stone, glass, resin, metal, and acrylic paints – creating works that are simultaneously raw, powerful, and full of expression. He refined his skills in acrylic painting through the teachings of an artist at the Düsseldorf Art Academy – an experience that lends his work additional depth and intensity.
His mentor, the French artist Benoît Averly, also had a formative influence, showing him how wooden sculptures can convey not only form but also emotion.
Today, Rotan Hunt transforms his home into a vibrant gallery: a place where visitors can experience the energy of his works firsthand. Each work speaks of a joy of experimentation, a search for balance between nature and modernity—and the urge to transform the everyday into something extraordinary.
