Elegant Bavarian porcelain gravy boat with an underplate, from the Schumann factory in Arzberg, a historic German porcelain house whose origins date back to the late 19th century. Founded in Arzberg in 1881, the Schumann factory is part of the history of this Bavarian region, which became one of Germany's major porcelain centers. Over the generations, the company developed a production particularly renowned for its dinnerware, combining manufacturing quality, refined decorations, and forms inspired by great European styles. This gravy boat, accompanied by its matching and removable underplate, belongs to a production from the 1960s-1970s. The reverse retains the factory's characteristic mark, adorned with a crown and the Bavarian lion crest, accompanied by the inscriptions "Bavaria – Schumann – Arzberg". The porcelain features a beautiful and particularly warm ivory tone, enhanced by a delicate scattering of small polychrome bouquets. Roses, blue, orange, yellow, and violet florets adorn both the gravy boat and its underplate, in the tradition of floral decorations that contributed to the renown of Bavarian porcelains. The shape is particularly elaborate. The generous body features a molded relief decoration inspired by rocaille, composed of curves, shells, and flowing movements. The long pouring spout rises elegantly, while the handle, designed as a grand volute, naturally extends this composition. Fine gilded lines highlight the contours, the upper rim, the handle, and the scalloped edge of the underplate. The ensemble measures approximately 11 cm in height, and the underplate is approximately 22 cm long. These proportions give it a beautiful presence, as attractive today on a set table as it would be repurposed as a decorative object in a display cabinet or an antique porcelain collection. The ensemble is preserved in very good condition. The porcelain remains shiny, the floral decorations are fresh, and the gilding remains beautifully intact. No cracks or chips are noted.
