"Schröder table (divan table) by Gerrit Rietveld from 1924
The table is not marked
no purchase receipt available
Side table "Divan table" designed by Gerrit Rietveld for the Schröder Rietveld house in Utrecht (1924). Commissioned by Truus Schröder.
This piece of furniture was designed as a side table for the divan that stood on the top floor of the Rietveld Schröder House in the first years, hence the name. The divan table and the Berlin chair can be seen as Rietveld's essential period furniture. Asymmetrical designs were considered extremely modern by the artists involved in De Stijl.
This Schröder 1 table is the same as the versions from the Schroder House/Central Museum Utrecht.
