About this seller
Private sellerProduct description
This classic wooden chess table is a striking decorative object, complete with a set of unique, hand-carved chess pieces. The piece of furniture distinguishes itself through its refined mother-of-pearl inlay and the detailed woodcarving of the figures, making it a functional work of art.
The table rests on an elegant tripod and is crafted from solid wood with a warm, brown finish. The playing field is inlaid with contrasting black and wooden squares, surrounded by a graceful mother-of-pearl floral inlay that extends onto the curved legs. The accompanying chess pieces display remarkable craftsmanship with a clear Asian influence; for instance, the knights are designed as water buffaloes, the pawns as traditional huts, and the royal figures wear detailed robes.
The set is in good vintage condition with an authentic patina reflecting its age and previous use. The original finish has been preserved, with the hand-carved pieces retaining their sharp details and the table being structurally sound.
This chess furniture looks excellent in a classic study, an eclectic living space, or a reading nook. It not only offers the opportunity for a strategic game but also serves as an intriguing eye-catcher that adds warmth and historical character to the interior.
