A Savonarola chair is also known as an X-shaped chair or scissor chair.
This chair style originated in medieval Italy and was popular during the Renaissance.
It is a type of folding chair with an X-shaped frame, made of interwoven curved slats hinged at their intersections.
The name "Savonarola" was coined in the 19th century as a reference to the Florentine monk Girolamo Savonarola, in whose cell several such chairs were reportedly found.
The chair features decorative lion heads on the armrests and carved decorations on the backrests.
