Product description
This is an authentic Japanese Satsuma earthenware decorative plate, manufactured during the Meiji period (1868-1912). The piece is a fine example of the refined art form that characterizes Satsuma ceramics, known for its detailed paintings and rich gilding.
The plate is made of ceramic and is entirely hand-painted. The central scene depicts a group of figures in traditional attire in a serene garden setting, surrounded by blossoms and peonies. This image is framed by a wide border of deep cobalt blue, richly decorated with complex, gilded geometric and floral motifs. A maker's mark is visible on the reverse, confirming the object's origin and authenticity.
The overall condition of the plate is good and consistent with its age of over a century. The colors are still vibrant, and the details of the painting are well preserved. The object comes with a metal hanging system for wall mounting.
As a significant decorative object, this Satsuma plate is suitable for wall placement or as a showpiece in a display cabinet. It adds an element of classic Japanese aesthetics to an interior and fits well within both a classic and an eclectic decor.
