This elegant desk is part of the refined “Samara” series, designed by Derk Jan de Vries for Maisa Di Seveso in the 1970s. The collection is regarded as an important example of organic and functional design from the second half of the 20th century.
The design combines the clarity of Dutch modernism with the warmth of Italian craftsmanship. The desk is made entirely of solid ash wood, where the wood grain is deliberately used as a decorative element. The rounded shapes soften the clean structure and give the whole a calm, tactile appearance.
The front features two side drawers with characteristic round handle cutouts and an open central compartment, ideal for books or work materials. The balance between closed and open elements creates a calm, functional composition.
The “Samara” series was produced in limited quantities and is rare to find today. This desk is an understated and characterful piece of furniture that fits effortlessly into modern, minimalist, or Wabi-Sabi-inspired interiors. Price for the desk only, also for sale as a set with chair, see other advertisement.
