Product description
For generations, long before refrigerators entered homes, these stoneware pots were a part of daily life in the French countryside. They were found in cellars, sheltered from light and heat, where they preserved butter, lard, rillettes, or confits carefully prepared after long days of family cooking. This model, made of salt-glazed stoneware and hand-decorated with cobalt blue patterns, is typical of workshops in Eastern France, between Alsace and Lorraine, from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The blue scrolls and arabesques, the two horizontal friezes, and the small flattened ring handles are drawn with confidence, in the spirit of popular stoneware where each brushstroke remains slightly different, reminding us that these pieces were intended to be utilitarian before being decorative. Diameter approximately 11 cm, height approximately 12 cm. Its dense and almost indestructible material was valued for its preservation qualities. More than a century later, it has stood the test of time without losing its character. The traces left by the years tell a story of cooking, harvests, and recipes passed down from generation to generation. Today, this pot naturally finds its place in a country decor, an authentic kitchen, or a collection of antique stoneware. It can hold utensils, dried flowers, or simply be displayed to evoke the charm of objects that have truly served their purpose. Its condition is very satisfactory, with some slight marks of use on the inner rim of the neck and a natural patina that attest to its history without detracting from its presentation. Additional details: - Style: Populaire - Style: Campagne - Material: Grès salé - Colour: Bleu cobalt - Period: Fin XIXe - Début XXe siècle
