A Sabzevar rug no. 2153 (also Sabzevar rug) comes from the city of Sabzevar in the province of Khorasan in north-eastern Iran. These carpets are Persian carpets, which have a long tradition in this region. Here is a description:
Origin and history: Sabzevar is located near Mashhad, one of the most important carpet centers in Iran.
The art of carpet weaving developed strongly there in the 19th and 20th centuries, influenced by the famous Khorasan carpets.
Characteristics:
Knotting: Fine, often very regular knotting with asymmetrical (Persian) knots.
Material: High-quality wool, sometimes with silk inserts for shine and detail. Warp and weft mostly cotton.
Colors: Strong, harmonious shades - red, dark blue, ivory, beige and accent colors such as green or light blue.
Patterns:
Often medallion motifs in the center with a symmetrical structure.
Richly decorated borders, often with flower tendrils or arabesque patterns.
Inspired by classic Khorasan carpets, but sometimes also modernized motifs.
Sizes: Mostly large formats, as they were traditionally intended for living rooms.
