Round low cutting board table in solid wood, from Central Europe and datable to the early 20th century. A piece of utilitarian origin reworked as a coffee table, bridging the rustic trough and the primitive-inspired table, representative of European folk furniture.
The circular top comes from a butcher’s block or a farmhouse work surface, later mounted at low height on two trestle feet. This kind of reconversion is common in furniture of rural origin: what was born to serve a trade joins today’s interior as an object of both use and presence.
It is built in solid wood assembled from planks, with a significant thickness that lends weight and stability. The trestle feet, of sober silhouette, attach to the top from underneath by traditional joinery. The construction is honest, without added ornament: all the expressiveness of the piece rests in the material itself.
The patina is the most eloquent element: a warm surface, marked by decades of use, with cuts, stains and traces of wear that compose an unrepeatable visual map. Natural grain cracks and the darkening of the most handled areas bear witness to an authentic, deeply lived piece.
Given its circular silhouette and its low height, it settles naturally into wabi-sabi, contemporary rustic or japandi-inspired interiors, where it works as a sitting-room coffee table, a low side table beside a sofa or a sculptural presence piece. Its primitive character dialogues with noble materials — stone, linen, ceramics — without any need to compete with them.
