About this seller
ProfessionalProduct description
Russian Palekh lacquered papier-mâché box, depicting three horses pulling a sleigh, made in the 20th Century. These boxes are renowned for their hand-painted lacquered miniatures, which often depict scenes from Russian fairy tales, folklore, or rural life. Made of papier-mâché, it is lacquered with several layers and polished, giving it a glossy and durable finish. The decoration shows a troika, a traditional sleigh pulled by three horses, a popular motif in Russian folk art. The technique originates in Russian villages, where artisans use methods passed down through generations. Originally designed for storing precious items, they are now valued as art objects.
