Product description
A bookcase designed by Svend Langkilde in the 1960s, finished in rosewood veneer. The piece bears the stamp of Danish Furniture Makers Control, the organisation that certified the quality of Danish furniture craftsmanship. This two-part construction combines closed storage with open display space, exemplifying the practical elegance of Scandinavian modern design.
The structure divides vertically into a substantial base unit with a pair of doors and a taller upper section. The upper portion houses a closed cabinet alongside two adjustable shelves, topped by an open compartment featuring circular cutouts in the back panel for cable management. Turned wooden holes serve as handles, continuing the Scandinavian tradition of celebrating natural materials through tactile details. Rosewood veneer with its distinctive grain pattern covers all visible surfaces, lending the piece a cohesive, refined appearance.
Svend Langkilde belonged to the generation of Danish designers who, during the 1960s, championed furniture that merged artisanal precision with everyday functionality. Danish design of this era placed particular emphasis on material selection — rosewood, imported and carefully matched, signified both quality and longevity. The Danish Furniture Makers Control certification ensured that each piece met strict standards for construction and materials, making such furniture a lasting investment rather than a passing acquisition.
At one hundred centimetres wide and over fifty centimetres deep, this bookcase accommodates books, audio equipment, and documents requiring discretion. Closed compartments protect contents from dust, while open shelves provide space to display favourite objects. The cable management holes in the upper section allow electronics to be connected without visible clutter.
The piece is in good condition, showing minor scratches and small chips consistent with age. Small losses have been filled. The more noticeable traces of use are also documented in the photographs, so that the actual state of preservation is conveyed as faithfully as possible.
