Private sellerProduct description
Rare sofa bed, model Doublet, by Rob Parry for Gelderland, 1958. The sofa has a beautiful teak frame and armrests, and was re-upholstered in 2022 with green Kvadrat fabric (Kvadrat Divina Melange 3, color: 967). The foam was also replaced at that time and, like the fabric, is in excellent condition.
The sofa can be transformed into a sofa bed with a simple hand movement. This sofa, with both a teak frame and armrests, was only in production for one year and is very rare in this condition.
Dimensions: 70cm high x 210cm wide x 78cm deep
The Story of the Rob Parry Sofa Bed
Rob Parry was a student of the legendary Gerrit Rietveld, and this is reflected in his work. The sofa bed is a beautiful example of how Parry's style combines the functional simplicity of modernism with a certain warmth and comfort. The clean lines and the use of materials make the sofa bed not only visually appealing, but also extremely versatile. In a time when homes were often compact, this sofa offered a clever solution: a stylish sofa during the day, a comfortable sleeping place at night.
A Timeless Piece for Modern Interiors
What makes the Rob Parry sofa bed so special is that, after more than 60 years, it still finds a place in modern homes. Whether you are a lover of the vintage feel of the 1950s, or simply appreciate smart, space-saving design – this sofa seamlessly fits into various living styles. Its airy frame makes it perfect for smaller spaces, while the charming character and history of the design add a stylish item to the room.
