He has a series of exhibitions behind him, each time publishing idiosyncratic catalogs. Van Iersel is very curious about materials, about media and about life itself. As an eighteen-year-old, he designed posters for pop concerts at the Effenaar. He draws comics, plays drums in Der Junge Hund and creates his first large colorful expressionist paintings that immediately lead to a solo exhibition at Galerie Willy Schoots. In the years that follow, Rik van Iersel exhibits in Amsterdam, Berlin, Hamburg, New York and San Francisco.
