The Steltman chair, designed by Gerrit Rietveld, is an iconic piece of furniture that embodies the essence of the De Stijl movement. This asymmetrical design, originally created in 1963 for The Hague jeweler Steltman, stands out for its architectural lines and spatial composition. This specific example is crafted from wood. The construction displays the characteristic open structure in which horizontal and vertical planes appear to intersect without touching, a fundamental principle in Rietveld's design language. The chair is designed with an armrest on one side, contributing to its sculptural character. The chair is in good condition. Over the years, the wood has developed an authentic patina that enhances the character of this historic design. This is an unmarked version made in the 1980s. It shows minor signs of wear commensurate with its age.
