UPDATE dated 8.11: DRAWERS FITTED WITH HANDLES; handles have been added without disrupting the aesthetic. These consist of 1 mm braided steel wire and a soldered brass knob.
Unique furniture based on an industrial stainless steel shelving unit
This cabinet is designed based on a rectangular stainless steel shelving unit from the catering industry and executed as a unique piece (edition 1/1). The design combines industrial functionality with material history and artisanal furniture craftsmanship.
The removable trays are made from so-called tobacco slats: drying slats originally used in South America for drying tobacco leaves. These slats, sourced from various types of wood ranging from coarse to fine sawn, bear the marks of years of use. The saw blade has left visible patterns, while prolonged contact with tobacco leaves has enriched the wood with a characteristic patina. Each bin is constructed with cabinetmaker's precision: the slats are connected to each other with domino pins, fitted with a 15 mm plywood base plate, and finished with glued mitered corners. The bins slide within a limited clearance height, allowing them to function as drawers; they can be pulled out to almost their full length.
The industrial shelving unit and the used tobacco slats visibly carry their history with them. The patina and traces of use have been deliberately preserved and form an integral part of the furniture's appearance.
The cabinet stands on smooth-running wheels and can be moved and steered effortlessly.

The signs of use can only be seen on the stainless steel frame. There are a few of them. No big bumps o.id. few small superficial rust spots (can be polished away but that is a waste in my opinion) stainless steel can be polished (also a waste and detracts from the design)
