Introducing an exceptionally rare and dynamic piece of 20th-century Dutch design history: a Modular Two-Tier Brutalist Coffee Table by renowned sculptor and mosaic artist Paul Kingma (1931–2013). Unlike Kingma's more common monolithic, single-surface designs, this highly architectural model features an innovative, multi-level system that brilliantly plays with depth, scale, and function. The Design & Craftsmanship
Throughout his career, Kingma treated furniture as a playground for sculpture, famously hand-building every single piece so that no two tables are ever alike. The two round, tiered tabletops feature his signature concrete-matrix mosaic, meticulously arranged with natural slate, stone segments, and hand-cut brass geometric inlays.
True to his artistic ethos, Kingma embedded curiosities collected during his lifelong travels into his creations. This particular table showcases a beautiful, historic British coins featuring the profile of King George V and a young profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II within an intricate multi-alloy brass ring. This heavy, organic surface rests securely on solid, textured brutalist concrete pedestal bases. Linked by raw industrial pins and elevated on elegant brass rods.
This piece is a fully documented, authentic work. It features an integrated brass strip inset directly into the mosaic stone surface, beautifully engraved with "Design" alongside Paul Kingma's distinctive handwritten signature, guaranteeing its provenance and investment value.
The table remains in excellent vintage condition, with the stone mosaic perfectly preserved and showcasing an incredible natural patina. Light wear on the concrete edges and minor, age-appropriate oxidation on the brass accents serve to highlight its authentic historical character.
