This rare sofa bed was designed by Louis van Teeffelen for the Dutch furniture manufacturer Wébé, dating from approximately 1960. It is one of a total edition of only 150 pieces.
The design is a characteristic example of the Mid-Century Modern style, with organically shaped wooden armrests.
The frame of this sofa is made of solid wood, presumably teak, which is typical for Van Teeffelen's designs from this period.
The sculptural armrests and tapered legs are characteristic of the Dutch Design movement.
The sofa has been (re)upholstered with a dark blue textile fabric that forms a timeless contrast with the warm wood. This piece of furniture combines the function of a comfortable sofa with the possibility of easily transforming it into a practical single bed. The seat slides out, causing 2 support legs to automatically fold out.
The overall condition of the sofa bed is fair to good and in accordance with its age of over sixty years. The wooden frame has developed an authentic patina that contributes to the character of the piece. The upholstery is functional and appropriate to the style, although it was renewed at a later stage.

Thanks to its slender profile and dual functionality, this sofa bed is an excellent addition to various interiors, from Mid-Century Modern to a more eclectic decor.
