This is an original pencil drawing by the Dutch artist Herbert van der Poll, dated 1896. The work depicts a restrained, classical scene of a seated girl in an interior, a subject characteristic of the figurative style of that period. It is rare because Van der Poll primarily produced animal drawings. The drawing is executed in pencil on paper and displays a refined technique with great attention to lighting and texture, visible in the folds of the clothing and the details of the objects such as the teapot and the washbasin. The work is signed and dated 'H. van der Poll -96-' in the lower left corner. The drawing is framed in a dark, classical frame with a mat, which emphasizes the historical context of the piece. The artwork is in good condition, befitting its age of more than a century. The drawing itself is well preserved, while the frame reflects the character and history of the piece. This drawing is a valuable addition for collectors of nineteenth-century Dutch art. Its understated character makes it a suitable work for a classic or eclectic interior, for example in a study or a quiet reading nook.
