Rare matching pair of Oakland sofas designed by Studio Cerri & Associati for Arflex in 1999. Made in Italy.
Offered as a matching pair of two identical sofas, purchased circa 2002 and retained by the same owner since then.
The Oakland is a refined example of late-1990s Italian design, characterised by its clean architectural proportions, substantial rectangular arms and outer shell, generous loose seat and back cushions, and slender chromed-steel feet.
The model is documented in the original Arflex technical catalogue as “Oakland – design by Studio Cerri & Associati ’99”. A copy of the original catalogue documentation is available and can be supplied with the sofas.
According to the original Arflex specifications, the Oakland features a solid pinewood structure, reinforced elastic suspension on an iron frame, polyurethane seat and back cushions with polyester fibre and chromed-steel feet. This model was originally available with removable fabric upholstery or non-removable leather upholstery.
These examples feature a dark brown leather outer structure with contrasting stitching and light-coloured fabric cushions. The cushions have been reupholstered during their lifetime; the original cushions were upholstered in a light coffee/tan wide-wale corduroy-style fabric.
Both sofas retain their Arflex – Made in Italy labels.
They are in good vintage condition consistent with their age and use. Detailed photographs of the leather, upholstery, chromed feet, labels and any signs of wear can be provided so that their condition can be assessed accurately.

The sofas are particularly attractive as a matching pair, which is increasingly difficult to find for discontinued Arflex designs of this period. Preference is therefore given to selling the two together, although individual offers may be considered.
