About this seller
Private sellerProduct description
This is an authentic Indian sculpture, crafted from sandstone, depicting a Mithuna or loving couple. Such sculptures are iconic in Indian temple art and symbolize the union of the divine and the earthly, a theme of great spiritual significance.
The sculpture is hand-carved from a solid block of sandstone and features a natural, beige-brown color scheme. With a height of approximately 92 cm and a base width of 24 cm, the piece has a substantial presence. The detailed finish of the hairstyles, jewelry, and serene facial expressions attest to the craftsmanship of the maker and the stylistic conventions of the period.
The overall condition is consistent with the age of the object, with a lived-in patina that contributes to its character and historical authenticity. Traces of time are visible and tell the story of the sculpture, which has maintained its structural integrity. It is a unique, standalone work of art.
As a sculptural statement, this piece can form a focal point in an interior with a classic, eclectic, or Asian style. It is an object that not only has aesthetic value but also adds a deeper cultural and historical layer to a space, such as a living room, library, or reception hall.
