Product description
This exceptional and rare floor lamp was designed by Louis Kalff and produced by Philips in the 1950s, either for Philips in the Netherlands or Germany. A masterpiece of mid-century modern design, this lamp embodies Kalff’s signature aesthetic, combining elegant forms with functional lighting innovation.
It features a beautifully curved neck, giving it a refined, sculptural appearance. The striking yellow lacquered shade, with its softly curved form, produces a warm, diffused light that adds a touch of sophistication to any space. The base is adorned with brass details, complemented by distinctive white lacquered feet, creating a unique contrast that makes this lamp stand out.
Kalff was a pioneering designer who shaped the visual identity of Philips for decades. Starting in 1929, he led the Lichtadviesbureau (“Lighting Advice Bureau”) and eventually became art director in 1946. His contributions extended beyond lighting, as he also designed products, exhibitions, stands, and light shows for Philips.
This floor lamp is a true testament to his visionary design approach, blending art and functionality into a timeless piece. It remains in good vintage condition, with only minor signs of age, and features a unique on/off switch that incorporates both the original components and some creative tinkering.
A rare and elegant icon of Dutch design history, this Louis Kalff floor lamp will enhance any interior with its mid-century charm and refined aesthetic.
The shade has some minor but not distracting wear and does not affect the overall beauty of the lamp. Additionally, there are some light oxidation spots here and there, which add to the lamp’s vintage character and authenticity.
