An elegant console/serving table by Thonet, Vienna, dating from the 1910s and belonging to model 221/9174, a fine example of Viennese Art Nouveau and classic bentwood craftsmanship. The table is made of solid beechwood, with legs and aprons crafted from bentwood approximately 25 mm in diameter, complemented by stabilizing bracing approximately 18 mm thick, and stained entirely in mahogany, giving the piece a warm, deep, and elegant color. The characteristic, stylized palmette or fan shapes in plywood are inlaid in both the tabletop apron and the upper bracing, contributing to the delicate appearance of this piece. The tabletop is made of solid wood approximately 16 mm thick, features a curved edge all around, and is also stained in mahogany, creating a harmonious overall impression with the base. The construction follows the typical design and manufacturing principles of Thonet's mass production of that era, combining high stability with a light, almost floating appearance. The original paper label "THONET VIENNA" is affixed to the underside, along with a stamped number (11), as used for the second Thonet label, which was demonstrably in use between 1886 and 1921, thus providing strong evidence for a date of approximately 1910.
Condition: The console table is in exceptionally good and authentic original condition. The finely curved bentwood frame shows no creases or cracks, while the tabletop displays age-related, sometimes more pronounced, signs of wear and patina, which underscore the historical character and originality of this over 100-year-old piece of furniture.
