Iconic Master of the Karma Kagyu: Karma Pakshi This exceptional polychrome wooden sculpture depicts the historical figure Karma Pakshi ( ), the second Karmapa and a central authority within the 'Black Hat' lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. This object, dated to the 17th to early 18th century, represents the pinnacle of Tibeto-Chinese sacred wood carving from the Himalayan region. (Ladakh)

Material Analysis & Dehydration:
Standing 44 cm tall, the sculpture weighs only 2.3 kg. This extremely low weight testifies to a complete cellular dehydration of the solid wooden core over a period of more than 300 years.
Unopened Consecration (Rabné):
The ritual base seal is completely intact. The original wooden sealing plate is sealed with a historical mixture of resin and wax, with the natural shrinkage joint confirming the authenticity of the 17th-century construction.
UV Spectral Analysis:
Under 365nm UV light, the polychromy exhibits a completely matte reaction. This confirms the absence of modern synthetic pigments, resins, or restorations.
Microscopic Validation (Dino-Lite):
Analysis of the pigment layers reveals the use of mineral pigments (including malachite and cinnabar). Traces of historical monastic restorations are visible in the form of brittle stopper wax rings around old insect holes, which supports the honest provenance history.
Iconographic Features
Karma Pakshi is depicted with his characteristic wrathful gaze and iconic mustache, seated in vajraparyankasana. He wears the Black Crown (Vajra Crown) with golden sun and moon symbolism. In his right hand, he holds the raised vajra, a symbol of indestructible spiritual power. The deep, dynamic folds of the robes attest to the hand of a master sculptor.
