Project description
For the project ‘Stil’, I visited the homes of elderly people. I spoke with the residents about their homes, the fond memories they hold there, and the realization that at some point they will leave their home.
What we often do not realize when we encounter such an interior is that it will disappear over the next 10 to 20 years. This was the impetus for me to capture the stereotypical image of this interior and give it a platform. The photos depict the interiors of the older generation, but captured in a contemporary style. I sought out the atmosphere and the associated feeling. The images are recognizable but leave room for the viewer to make their own associations. In my photography, I play with the concept of impending fate and stillness.
About the photographer
The photographer is...
As a photographer, I create still lifes of interior elements or other objects. I am interested in social and cultural subjects and have a background as a sociologist myself. Themes that fascinate me are Dutch or Western culture and modern society. I portray these abstract subjects in a lighthearted and playful manner. In doing so, I look for images that are recognizable, iconic, or universal. I then capture these in a minimalist way. My photography is often narrative or alienating; I love to exaggerate and make the viewer look at a subject in a different way.
